Building our tiny home
Welcome to our building log and history
We started with designing a 12X20 FT single slope roof tiny home that would match in colors and style with other buildings. We took those plans over to Country Barn out of Belvidere,TN and got an estimate for its custom construction. We have already purchased one barn from them and knew the quaility of the work they did with the first. It was ordered on 11/12/25 and delivered on 12/15/2025.
I designed it with 3/4 inch floor, vapor barrier and all walls ceiling and floor with 16" on center, so that it was standard sizing for insulation and interior walls.
I tried something new out this time for the floor and ceiling Insulation design, "baffles". Under the flooring I placed 3.5" rockwool safe and sound insulation and then sealed it in place with baffles. This is a perfect fit for a 2X6 floor joist. I will still have to foam any holes/seams in putting it up.
I did the reverse for the ceiling allowing for 2 inch vent above the insulation, which allows for the building roof to vent properly.
I got half of the underside and all of the ceiling completed before extremme cold and bad weather rolled in here in January, and we are just waiting for it to warm up, to start again.
Once it warms up, I will complete the sanitary drain system for it, finish the underside insulation and then have Country barn come out once more and lower the TH (Tiny Home) to it final hieght to ground as we will be done with the underside.
I had to purchase the shower ahead of time, so that I get the drain for it centered exactly.
When put it in its final place, 1 block will be removed for height and it will be 9 feet from barn, with the 2 doors (TH and kitchen doors) facing each other. The 9 foot area between buildings will make a nice breezeway.
My goal, is to keep it under $100 a square foot. Its 210 square feet.
